Farming intelligently begins with collaborative efforts among various stakeholders, particularly the government, including the Ministry of Agriculture, alongside farmers and development partners.
The primary objective of these initiatives is to achieve zero hunger and eradicate extreme poverty, which are recognized as global goals. A significant topic of interest for farmers is the beginning of the rainy season, observed in regions such as Mbeya, Morogoro, and Arusha, among others. This period marks the planting season for numerous crops, and it is imperative for farmers to take action and implement their plans.
The Tanzania Meteorological Authority (TMA) has officially released the seasonal rainfall forecast for regions that experience annual rainfall. These areas include Kigoma, Katavi, Singida, Dodoma, Rukwa, Songwe, Mbeya, Iringa, Njombe, Lindi, Mtwara, Ruvuma, and southern Morogoro, covering the timeframe from November 2024 to April 2025.
During a press conference at Ubungo Plaza, Dr. Ladislaus Chang’a, the Acting Director General of TMA and Vice Chair of the International Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), announced that average to below-average rainfall is anticipated in the regions of Kigoma, Tabora, Katavi, Rukwa, Songwe, Singida, and Dodoma, as well as in the northern and eastern parts of Lindi, and the northern areas of Mbeya and Iringa. In contrast, average to above-average rainfall is expected in Njombe, Ruvuma, Mtwara, southern and western Lindi, and the southern regions of Mbeya, Iringa, and Morogoro.
This forecast data is crucial for farmers to plan effectively and optimize their planting strategies, determining what crops to cultivate and what to postpone. Farming should no longer be approached as a matter of chance.
Let us transform farming from a guessing game into a promising endeavor for our future; together, we can nourish Africa and beyond.
